Is It Cyberbullying?
Read each scenario and determine whether or not the situation is an example of cyberbullying. Discuss your answers.
- Shayla posts a picture of herself on social media. Another person comments, “You should turn the light on and retake because your picture is dark and it’s hard to see you.”
- Chase is playing a video game with an online player. When he loses the game, Chase begins cursing and calling the other player names, and he threatens to fight him.
- Three friends record themselves playing funny pranks on one another. They post the videos on their social media pages.
- Alyssa takes an unflattering picture of her big sister while she is sleeping then posts the picture without her sister’s permission.
- Kayla posts the negative hashtag #fatandugly about another girl on her social media page. Then she tells her friends to repost the negative message on their pages.
- Jayden makes a cooking video and posts it to his social media channel. A viewer comments, “Cooking is for girls! You must be gay!”
- Heaven posts a video of herself dancing. A viewer comments, “You are fat and ugly!”
- Gianna and her friends create a social media channel with videos of them making slime. A viewer likes one of their videos and subscribes to their channel. This same viewer posts the comment, “I don’t like foam slime because it’s too sticky.”
- Daria and her brother form a band and post a video of their first performance on social media. A viewer comments, “You guys messed up that song!”
- Madison posts pictures from her birthday party. One of her friends comments, “This party was so lame!”
